Mary Kay (Bishop) Henry October 1909 - March 2009

Mary Kay (Bishop) Henry

Mary Kay Henry was devoted to her husband Herchel and to our community. She was proud to call Columbus home for more than six decades, after moving here from West Virginia in 1941.

A founding member of The Childhood League in 1945, Mary Kay devoted many years to nurturing and establishing its programs and services.  According to her lawyer, Rich Long, it was “the one community organization about which she was the most passionate. Mary Kay loved life and loved The Childhood League.”

When Mary Kay passed away in March 2009 at the age of 99— seven months shy of her 100th birthday—she left a rich legacy of service and devotion to family and community.  But just as significant was her desire to help her beloved Childhood League through a testamentary gift.

“Thanks to Mary Kay’s generosity and foresight, her contribution to The Childhood League and the Center will live on,” stated League President Emily Gerber. “We are deeply touched that her love of the League prompted her to include the organization in her will.”

The Childhood League’s Pathways Society

There are many options for leaving a lasting legacy of caring with The Childhood League. Many donors make deferred gifts through bequests. You can stipulate in your estate plans that the League be a beneficiary of your generosity through a bequest or through more complex gift structures, such as charitable gift annuities and charitable remainder trusts. We encourage you to seek financial and/or legal counsel to consider the best option for you.

The women of The Childhood League, long known for their energy and enthusiasm established the Pathways Society to ensure that generations of children and families may benefit from this Planned Giving Program.

The Childhood League’s Pathways Society honors those people who have chosen to name the League in their wills, trusts and other planned giving arrangements to ensure the Center’s critically needed programs for young children can continue in perpetuity.

Pathways Society Membership Benefits:
Listing on the Center’s donor recognition wall
Recognition in Childhood League Center published material
Invitations to donor recognition events
The satisfaction of knowing your legacy will continue to change the lives of children with special needs for years to come
